King Becks vs Queen Victoria

Hot on the heels of that Sunday Times poll suggesting future Queen Consort Kate Middleton call her daughter Victoria, the other half of one of Britain's other power couples has made a plea for a highly unlikely choice of name for a future king.

While Victoria Beckham might be hopeful that a Cambridge princess will share her name, hubby David didn't come close to getting his own moniker onto the hopefuls list but in an exclusive interview with Sky News today he suggests that the Duke and Duchess might consider Dave as a name if they have a little boy.

It's not likely to happen.  The name is rarely used by royalty and the last man to bear it became Edward VIII - not the best precedent in recent history for a child who will inherit a crown many feel was rescued by Edward's brother, George, and his daughter Elizabeth II after the drama of the Abdication Crisis.

Edward, Prince of Wales on his visit to Canada in 1919.  He was always known to his family as David - it was in fact the last of his seven names.

But in the interview, Becks talks about how brilliant he thinks the Cambridges will be with their baby and describes how loving they are with children of friends.  But when it comes to naming this future monarch, it looks like Mrs Beckham is in with more of a chance of seeing her name in royal lights than the man of the house.
