Five fabulous red coats

Queen Letizia is back in one of her favourite red coats but as well as making us all smile with her style, she's reminded us that when it comes to a simple fashion statement a little dash of scarlet goes a long, long way. She's not the only royal lady to wow us with a red coat so in honour of this favourite making another appearance, here are five fabulous red royal coats.  Pick your favourite.

Queen Letizia of Spain does love a red coat and this one, chosen for a visit to Berlin, was an real eye catcher. Maybe it's the matching scarf, maybe it's the simple lines but this block of colour on a coat is a winner every day.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has worn this red coat on many occasions but it doesn't matter how often she chooses it, it just gets better every time. It's long for a royal day coat and all the better for it while the collar and belt details make it stand out from the crowd every time.

The Duchess of Cambridge also went for long with this dark red coat, most famously worn on a visit to Denmark just months after her marriage. It's got a stylish front which adds to its magic and the whole look is really rather chic.

Princess Charlene's most famous red coat is really rather understated for her but she makes it all her own. Like Kate, she went for a darker red and kept the rest of the outfit simple. Stunning.

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands' bright red coat takes shaping and tailoring to another level. Wearing something this stylised in red is hard but Maxima pulls it off and then some. It's an elegant look that just goes to show the power of a red coat - no wonder Europe's royals keep going back to this style idea, it's fabulous.
