Singapore State Visit to Norway: the State Dinner Sparklers

Norway's Royal Family hosted the President and First Lady of Singapore in the week on a State Visit and that means a State Dinner. And we all know what a gala do means when it's held in a palace and part of an official trip. Yes, tiaras. Here are the State Dinner sparklers chosen by Queen Sonja and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway for this glittering event.

Queen Sonja kept it modern and chose one of the most talked about pieces in her collection. The Queen of Norway wore the gold tiara given to her by her husband, King Harald, when she turned 60 in 1997. It's a wall of gold, scattered with tiny diamonds and with space in the middle for jewels as a centrepiece. This time round, Sonja chose more diamonds as the focal point for her tiara.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore the Amethyst Necklace tiara which has become a bit of a favourite of hers over the last ten years or so. It's a pretty piece, made up of round amethysts surrounded by diamonds and arranged into two tiers. The purple stones sit on top of a row of smaller, round diamonds.

They are both favourite pieces of the Norwegians royals and add sparkle without overwhelming the event. Both paired their pieces with cream dresses (Sonja's was first worn a quarter of a century ago, that really is royal recycling) and started the autumn sparkle season off in style.
