The annual broadcast reached 7.7 million people according to the overnight figures - it's a combination of the audiences on BBC1 and ITV which put the speech out simultaneously at 3pm.
The Duchess of Cornwall no doubt contibuted to the second best watched programme's audience - Camilla is a big Strictly Come Dancing fan and the BBC One special too spot number two with 7.2 million.
The Queen usually tops the Christmas Day viewing figures - last year 7.5 million tuned in and in 2014 the figure was 7.82 million. The Christmas Day speech began in 1932 when King George V broadcast to the nation by radio. The first televised speech was in 1957.
