The Royal Wardrobe: spring has sprung

The Royal Wardrobe has suddenly got bright and cheerful as spring gets under way. There was a real buzz as the coats (all but) came off and winter faded to a memory. We got colour, we got print, we got clashes, we got surprises, it was a week springing with new style and chic. Five of the most memorable moments follow,  the poll is on the right and on the main page. The results will be here on Wednesday.

Let's start with some recycling because, let's face it, there's not much not to love about Queen Letizia's red print dress which was winning fans before the winter started and it putting that season to rest by making everyone smile all over again this week. The pink bag is an odd addition but when the frock is this good, does it really matter?

Queen Maxima welcomed spring as only she could with a whole heap of colours and textures piled into one outfit that somehow worked. Yep, spring is starting pretty much the way winter ended for the Queen of the Netherlands - in her own style. No one can match Maxima for adding a personal stamp to a look and this week we got a dark green sheer top and underlay with a grey mix skirt and velvet shoes. That's certainly a style statement.

The Duchess of Cambridge did a spot of royal recycling this week as well and, just like Letizia, she went for a former favourite that never fails to please. The cream and peach two piece suit with its Sixties vibe and statement buttons does smart and chic in equal measure. Add in the suede shoes and tiny clutch and you have effortless elegance on a spring afternoon.

Say hello to Princess Astrid's State Visit welcome dress, the reason the words colour and clash were put together in the first place. The sister of the King of Norway chose a blue and green tropical print for her two piece suit and threw in a great big chunk of white in the middle just in case it wasn't busy enough already. Somehow, this works. It might actually be the royal outfit of the year so far. This is beyond everything we ever expect and Astrid looks great in it.

The Countess of Wessex set the style bar high for spring with this magic mix of blocks of colour. The cream coat mixed with navy trousers, top and shoes are looking pretty good all by themselves but thrown in that mushroom grey bag to break it all up and you have a winning combination. Then Sophie goes and reminds us all just how on top of this season's style she really is by doing the whole statement sleeves thing too. But is the Countess of Wessex your poll winner this week? You can vote at the top of the page....

Who wore your favourite royal outfit of the week?
